The Protege

THE PROTEGE

Directed by Martin Campbell, The film follows Maggie Q as Anna who is trained as an assassin by Moody played by Samuel L Jackson. No spoilers but  Anna is out for revenge which leads her to Michael Keaton who plays Rembrandt. All hell breaks loose in this cat and mouse ending.

What a nice surprise. I was really into this and it is because of the three leads; great action; and interesting characters.  The game play between Q and Rembrandt adds so much tension. It is love maybe, maybe just sex, or maybe a trap.
The one big problem with the film is the backend of the script. Very over the top which does not do the front half justice (No spoilers).  It seems like Campbell and screenwriter Richard Wenk had an idea but did not have a way to end the story. The ending seemed sloppy a bit and I just did not like the ending.

Well 3 1/2 stars out of 5 for this well acted pleasant surprise. I hope there is a follow up to this film.

From the shadows as always.
