Mouthful Of Air

 MOUTHFUL OF AIR

Mouthful Of Air

The film follows best selling author Julie Davis (Amanda Seyfried), after she has her baby she starts having awful thoughts related to to postpartum depression and suicide.

This film is not for everyone. In fact the subject matter is bigger than the movie. "Hey let's go to the movies and see a depressed woman try to kill herself and leave her children alone"; is something probably never said. This is that film.

Positives:
-Amanda Seyfried steps in to this role and crushes it. It is a difficult role, the performance asks the viewers to fell for her, while society stil finds mental issues as weak.
-The story by Director and writer Amy Koppelman is a labor of love for her, she has been pushing this film for many years. The movie touches on mental illness from many views. The husband who gets it...but kinda does not. The relatives who look down on her as "Less" of a mother. The neighbors who want to help but they do not know how. It is a wonderful script.
-There is also small touch here on the subject of medication, the stigma that goes with it. The caretakers (partners) who should not fear to be a pest to make sure things are being followed through with.
-The small twist at the end..not knowing we were looking forward...NO SPOILERS here

Negatives:
-For a movie that has a huge cloud of sadness wrapped around it...its a long frustrating watch. I know an hour and 45 minutes is not a long film but here it felt long. Not an easy watch.

No Spoilers again so I will stop there 3 out of 5 stars for Mouthful Of Air. An important story well acted.

From th shadows as always thanks for your time
