Film Review: Arrival

Image result for Arrival

ARRIVAL
Directed by Denis Villeneuve
Screenplay by Eric Heisserer
Based on the story by Ted Chiang
Starring Amy Adams; JeremyRenner; and Forrest Whitaker

Well, this may be difficult to review without spoiling.
Amy Adams have given us two movies with confusing endings back to back, with my review of Nocturnal Animals coming soon.
With Arrival we have a neat idea, Aliens coming down to earth, however, there is no battle. No galactic war. It takes you back to Close Encounters.
Amy Adams, as usual is brilliant, as Louise Banks a Linguist who has the task of trying to converse with the aliens and find out why they are here. The excitement comes because she is racing the clock to get answers before the pods or ships are attacked by the US forces or overseas by other forces.

She is helped by a Mathematician  Ian Donnelly played by Jeremy Renner. Renner really has not much to do except be a sidekick and watch and talk calmly.
As in Rogue One (Review will come in  some days ahead) Forest Whitaker is wasted as a Colonel. You have freaking Forest Whitaker!!! Use him!!!

As for the story, it is really tense and oddly different and exciting. All leading up to the ending where people will debate forever. Some say maybe we do not know who the aliens are (no Spoilers). Or maybe it is just there, a strange time shift. Watch and decide. I have seen it twice. What the....???!!! I always like my endings a bit more clearer, but that may be just me.

I give Arrival 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. It is pretty good but different that is for sure.

Arrival will be released for home viewing February 14th.

From the shadows as always thanks for your time.
