Film Review Almost Christmas
Almost Christmas
Directed by David E Talbert
Screenplay by David E Talbert
Starring Danny Glover; Kimberly Elise; Omar Epps; Mo'Nique; Romany Malco; Gabrielle Union; and Jessie T Usher
Walter's (Glover) family is getting together for the holiday. The first one since his wife has passed.
The positives:
Danny Glover. Danny Glover. Danny Glover. Did I say Danny Glover?
Mo'Nique is hilarious.
With all the stars in this film Jessie T Usher, a sort of unknown, sweeps in and steals this film with a couple heartbreaking scenes.
The Negatives:
It tries to be like the Big Chill, with people arriving with some secrets and issues , and as you can imagine it all gets wrapped up in a bow at the end. Problem is, the issues are so generic that I did not really care enough to follow the characters. It felt like things just dragged. And whenever Glover and Mo'Nique were not on the screen....it just felt boring and sitcom-ish.
It is a Christmas film so I have to give it points for being corny, it is what you expect from holiday movies.I like a good corny film. Also there were some laughs so I will give it 3 stars out of 5, just a little better than average, and for Glover, Usher, and Mo'Nique. It is harmless and seems like a better fit for home viewing. It will be released for home viewing February 7th.
From the shadows as always thanks for your time.
