Number 12 Of My 20 Favorite

So we come to my number 12 of my top 20 all time favorite films.
The magical E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.
Do not forget the magic.
The first time you saw it.
Spielberg has had many successful films and many critically acclaimed films, but nothing is as magical as E.T.. Yes it can feel dated now but it still picks up on the wonderment of being a child; holding a secret; magical nighttime bike rides; and the scariness of darkness.
Also....hidden in the film is the mom. Left to take care of 3 kids on her own, it shows the difficulties she is going through. Oh...then throw in an alien!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know the story, so let me get to some fun facts:

-The script was largely written on location while Spielberg was finishing Raider Of the Lost Ark, during film breaks.

-Harrison Ford was in E.T.!!!!! However he was cut out. He was a Elliot's School Master.

-E.T.'s voice was provided by Pat Welsh. She was an elderly woman living in California. She spent nine and a half hours taping. Was paid 380 dollars. Then Spielberg used 16 other voices to mix in. Including Debra Winger's voice.

-E.T. was the longest ever theatrical run. A full year.

-During filming the film was called A Boy's Life.

-Roger Ebert...the great critic, included E.T. on his greatest movie list.

-Budget was ten and a half million dollars. It grossed four hundred and thirty five million.


Speilberg went back to back here with Raiders reminding us how fun and magical films can be.
