PLAYING WITH FIRE
A bunch of smoke jumpers have to watch over a group of children who have lost their home.
Okay....I fully understand that this film brought out by Nickelodeon Studio was not meant for me. So I have to open my mind and try to judge it through the eyes of a youngster. However also understanding that an adult has to sit through it.
Well the first half is real rough. With bad CGI. A lot of overacting. Many lines and or slapstick comedy that falls real flat, even through young ones eyes. A story line that is a stretch for sure (Like a camp out for a reason that made no sense).
The second half surprisingly has a nice recovery. The film settles in to a sweet story, about family and love. It kind of works in an awkward bad screenplay sort of way.
Other positives...
Keegan-Michael Key is very funny in this film, with dry humor adults will get.
Brianna Hildebrand is wonderful in her role as Brynn. I was shocked when I found out she was the same person who played Negasonic Teenage Warhead in the Deadpool movies. She looks so different here.
Judy Greer as Dr Amy Hicks is really good and funny in a small thankless role.
Oh and for the ladies John Cena (Who really over acts unnecessarily in this role) takes off his shirt often...so that helps.
2 1/2 stars out of 5. Right down the middle for a nice second half of the film. Children will probably like it more than the adults. Also watch through the credits. Many good laughs as we see outtakes.
