Emily Blunt. Emily Blunt. Did I say Emily Blunt?
Yes there are nice performances by Lin-Manuel Miranda; Ben Winshaw (With a bad mustache); Emily Mortimer; Julie Walters; and a nice bad guy turn from Colin Firth. Also with wonderful surprise performances by Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury. Still...this is all Emily Blunt perfect...or should I say positively perfect in every way.
She is so good that when she is not on screen the film just drops and drags.
You have Emily Blunt and some great actors, with a pretty good plot wrapped around The Banks losing their home. So it was entertaining.
There are a couple big problems. Many songs did not work and should have been left out. Then the film coming in at 2 hours and 10 minutes felt 2 hours and 10 minutes, leaving some songs out would have helped this.
So, Emily Blunt makes this work and should get an Oscar nod for this film.
It is just fun to watch her in this part. It looks great on the big screen. Just pick any song that she is not singing and take a bathroom break then m(wait a minute...the lamp lighters song and dance were pretty good).
