New Releases This Week On DVD BLU/RAY And Streaming!!

I see three movies of interest coming out this week on DVD/BLURAY/STREAMING:

CHAPPIE
Directed by Neill Blomkamp
Scrrenplay by Neill Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell
Starring Sharlto Copley/Dev Patel/Hugh Jackman

In the future, crime is patrolled by a robot police force. When one police droid, Chappie, is stolen and given new programming, he becomes the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself.

Blomkamp has a cult following for his films, especially District 9. I Have trouble with his films as I did with this film. Like District 9 I found Chappie to be dark and ....with no emotion. I do think he tried to give Chappie emotion, note his ears, but there is an underlying sadness in this and all of his films. And that sadness always seems like, see his Elysium, guilt, or look what we have done, we are so bad (Tomorrowland). I tend to push away from films with that underlying score.
Well Dev Patel is very good, I think he is underrated as an actor. And I could not look at Hugh Jackman here and think dude, diversify, you just did Real Steel, playing against a CGI robot!!!
Well, watching at home. you could do worse than this a little better than average film, 3 out of 5 stars, like all his films I just did not connect.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Directed by Ken Scott
Screenplay by Steve Conrad
Starring Vince Vaughn; Dave Franco; Tom Wilkinson; and Sienna Miller

Vince Vaugn becomes a small business owner after clashing with his boss (Miller). He his two associates, who travel to Europe with him to close the most important deal of their lives. But things become unhinged.

I think this movie was unfairly ripped. It is not that bad and has a few laughs. It may be more of a fit for home viewing. It runs 91 minutes so it is a comedy that does not overstay its welcome. Yes I wish it was funnier, but you can feel the effort there. The biggest problem is watching Vaugns character butting heads with his boss/former boss, Miller. Watching him fight for fareness and a chance in the market place is hard sometimes to watch because it may be too real in the working place today.
Dave Franco gets the most laughs, as Vaugns young protégé. And Wilkerson is funny because he is cast against type and it works.
2 1/2 stars out of 5 for Unfinished Business.

RUN ALL NIGHT
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra
Screenplay by Brad Ingelsby
Starring: Liam Neeson; Ed Harris; Joel Kinnaman

Mobster/hit man Jimmy Conlon (Neeson) has one night to make things right. His estranged son, Mike (Kinnaman), life is in danger, by his longtime best friend, mob boss Shawn Maguire (Harris).  Jimmy has to find a way to fix things.
Going in to this film my thought process was....Neeson has to change something, all his movies are becoming the same. However, surprisingly this film is different. Yes, there is a lot of shooting. A lot of killing. A lot of coincidences that get people out of danger (like the Taken movies). The difference here is Neeson is not a good guy. And he knows it, and his son keeps reminding him, and it eats him up.
Neeson and Harris are stars, but this movie is Kinnaman. A wonderful actor. He is fabulous in this role.
It is silly and at the same time exciting. Yes it could have been edited a bit but it still kept me watching. 4 out of 5 stars for Run All Night. This is a pretty good thriller, and if you do not believe me that Kinnaman is one of the best actors working today...watch this!!!!

From the shadows as always thanks for your time!
