Film Review: Run All Night

Run All Night
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra
Screenplay by Brad Ingelsby
Starring: Liam Neeson; Ed Harris; Joel Kinnaman

Mobster/hit man Jimmy Conlon (Neeson) has one night to make things right. His estranged son, Mike (Kinnaman), life is in danger, by his longtime best friend, mob boss Shawn Maguire (Harris).  Jimmy has to find a way to fix things.
Going in to this film my thought process was....Neeson has to change something, all his movies are becoming the same. However, surprisingly this film is different. Yes, there is a lot of shooting. A lot of killing. A lot of coincidences that get people out of danger (like the Taken movies). The difference here is Neeson is not a good guy. And he knows it, and his son keeps reminding him, and it eats him up.
Neeson and Harris are stars, but this movie is Kinnaman. A wonderful actor. He is fabulous in this role. This film is the perfect example of why I have problems many critics who automatically put down films like this. The trailer showed you exactly what this film was. An intense, shoot em up, thriller. And it delivered. Critics go after this type of film for its holes and too much violence. What did they expect? Birdman!! The film should be reviewed for what it is meant to be. It is what it is. And It is silly. And exciting. Yes it could have been edited a bit but it still kept me watching. 4 out of 5 stars for Run All Night.

As always thanks for your time.
