New Review: Infinitely Polar Bear

INFINITELY POLAR BEAR
Directed and Screenplay by Maya Forbes
Starring Mark Ruffalo; Zoe Saldana; Imogene Wolodarsky; and Ashley Aufderheide

A manic-depressive mess of a father (Ruffalo) tries to win back his wife (Saldana) by attempting to take full responsibility of their two young daughters (Wolodarsky and Aufderheide), while she is away a school for 18 months.

The title comes from the younger child, Faith, mispronouncing Manic Depression by calling Infinitely Polar Bear. Cute...kind of.

Well. Disappointment. That is what I thought of after this film. Where does it go wrong? Every where except for Saldana.
The tone. The tone is a mess. Are we suppose to laugh at a man who is manic-depressive. I laughed and kind of felt bad. However the thing is......I thought Cameron, Ruffalo's character, was more quirky/odd than depressive. Which takes me to.....
Screenplay. The screenplay touches on incidents over time but really never delves into the issues, or the why or the how comes. There is no meat here and it is a shame because it is an interesting story that could be told. Lines!! Some of the lines the actors said were so...cringe worthy. Just bad.
Acting. The acting was...not good. Ruffalo, yes funny at times, seemed to be over acting, and he seemed to have no chemistry with the child actors. The Child Actors. I hate being mean about kids but both Wolodarsky and Aufderheide were stiff, I felt like they were just reading their lines. Just...bad. Sorry. On the plus side Saldana is pretty good as an exasperated mom/wife trying to better herself while dealing with the mess at home.
2 out of 5 stars for this disappointing film.

From the shadows as always thanks for your time.
