Well the Golden Globes are Sunday night. Strangely I am not looking forward to it. I think the nominations are a mess, with many nominations in the wrong category. Also, I can handle Ricky Gervais in small doses but I am not a fan of his comedy, which is making fun of people and then laughing and saying sorry. In fact there is a good chance I will not be watching it live. I may watch it on delay later so I can fast forward.
Well with all that being said here are my predictions:
BEST ORIGINAL SONG
| |
“Love Me Like You Do” from “Fifty Shades of Grey” “One Kind of Love” from “Love & Mercy” “See You Again” from “Furious 7” “Simple Song No. 3” from “Youth” “Writing’s on the Wall” from “Spectre” WILL WIN- Writing's On The Wall SHOULD WIN- Writing's On The Wall BEST SCORE Carter Burwell (“Carol”) Alexandre Desplat (“The Danish Girl”) Ennio Morricone (“The Hateful Eight”) Daniel Pemberton (“Steve Jobs”) Ryuichi Sakamoto Alva Noto (“The Revenant”)
WILL WIN-Daniel Pemberton for Steve Jobs SHOULD WIN-Daniel Pemberton for Steve Jobs BEST ANIMATED PICTURE “Anomalisa” “The Good Dinosaur” “Inside Out” “The Peanuts Movie” “Shaun the Sheep Movie” This will be a three film race between Shaun and Anomalisa and Inside. This may be surprising but remember this award is voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press. WILL WIN- Anomalisa SHOULD WIN-Inside Out BEST SCREENPLAY Emma Donoghue (“Room”) Tom McCarthy, Josh Singer (“Spotlight”) Charles Randolph, Adam McKay (“The Big Short”) Aaron Sorkin (“Steve Jobs”) Quentin Tarantino (“The Hateful Eight”) This could go any way. All 5 are deserving of winning. WILL WIN-Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer for Spotlight SHOULD WIN-Quentin Tarantino for The Hateful Eight BEST DIRECTOR Todd Haynes (“Carol”) Alejandro G. Iñárritu (“The Revenant”) Tom McCarthy (“Spotlight”) George Miller (“Mad Max: Fury Road”) Ridley Scott (“The Martian”) I think this is a two horse race. WILL WIN- Inarritu for The Revenant SHOULD WIN- Ridley Scott for The Martian BEST SUPPORTING ROLE BY AN ACTOR Paul Dano (“Love & Mercy”) Idris Elba (“Beasts of No Nation”) Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies”) Michael Shannon (“99 Homes”) Sylvester Stallone (“Creed”) This is a two horse race. I think Elba was very good, however he should be eliminated because Beasts was shown on TV at the same time as one theatre. Stallone has an edge here because the Hollywood Foreign Press lean toward older actors. WILL WIN- Sylvester Stallone for Creed SHOULD WIN-Mark Rylance for Bridge Of Spies BEST SUPPORTING ROLE BY AN ACTRESS Jane Fonda (“Youth”) Jennifer Jason Leigh (“The Hateful Eight”) Helen Mirren (“Trumbo”) Alicia Vikander (“Ex Machina”) Kate Winslet (“Steve Jobs”) Mirren is always a threat. Fonda overrated. Vikander may cancel herself out by splitting her votes for Best Actress and this. So that leaves two: WILL WIN- Kate Winslet for Steve Jobs SHOULD WIN-Jennifer Jason Leigh for The Hateful Eight BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY OR MUSICAL Christian Bale (“The Big Short”) Steve Carell (“The Big Short”) Matt Damon (“The Martian”) Al Pacino (“Danny Collins”) Mark Ruffalo (“Infinitely Polar Bear”) Boy this category shows the lack of comedy in films this year. The Martian? Polar Bear? Big Short? Not comedies. WILL WIN-Matt Damon The Martian SHOULD WIN- Al Pacino Danny Collins ----the only real comedy here. BEST ACTRESS COMEDY OR MUSICAL Jennifer Lawrence (“Joy”) Melissa McCarthy (“Spy”) Amy Schumer (“Trainwreck”) Maggie Smith (“The Lady in the Van”) Lily Tomlin (“Grandma”) As noted before, the Hollywood Foreign Press leans toward older actors so.... WILL WIN-Lilly Tomlin for Grandma SHOULD WIN-Amy Schumer for Trainwreck BEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”) Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”) Michael Fassbender (“Steve Jobs”) Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”) Will Smith (“Concussion”) WILL WIN DiCaprio for The Revenant SHOULD WIN DiCaprio for The Revenant BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA Cate Blanchett (“Carol”) Brie Larson (“Room”) Rooney Mara (“Carol”) Saoirse Ronan (“Brooklyn”) Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”) In the year of women in film any one of these leads could win. WILL WIN-Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn SHOULD WIN--Brie Larson in Room BEST PICTURE MUSICAL OR COMEDY “The Big Short” “Joy” “The Martian” “Spy” “Trainwreck” Again The Martian is not a comedy. WILL WIN-The Martian SHOULD WIN-Trainwreck BEST PICTURE DRAMA “Carol” “Mad Max: Fury Road” “The Revenant” “Room” “Spotlight” I think this really comes down to Room and Spotlight. WILL WIN-Spotlight SHOULD WIN-Spotlight From the shadows as always thanks for your time.
