Gowns are ready
Tuxedos are on
OSCAR weekend is here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My picks....will win...should win...and snubbed!!
Remember...the last 2 years my picks were way off...so....
BEST PICTURE
1917
Ford vs Ferrari
Joker
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Parasite
The Irishman
Little Women
JoJo Rabbit
Marriage Story
Will Win:
Parasite
I think it has a lot of momentum going in to Oscar ballot season. Some also looks at this film as a political film (I disagree), and Hollywood loves an anti-rich people film even though they are ..rich people.
Should Win:
JoJo Rabbit
Director Taika Waititi put together a funny and also a sweet film. He also plays the imaginary Hitler. Lets face it he took chances here for sure, and somehow everything worked.
Snubbed
Knives Out
Rian Johnson with a comeback! He brought the mystery back! Led by Daniel Craig as the great Detective Benoit Blanc with a bad accent. His Watson, Marta Cabrera played by Ana De Armas with a wonderful breakout role. This film is just fun, god forbid the Academy would like a fun film. I would have definitely have put this in replacing The Irishman.
BEST ACTRESS
Charlize Theron Bombshell
Renee Zellweger Judy
Scarlett Johansson Marriage Story
Cynthia Erivo Harriet
Saoirse Ronan Little Women
Will Win and Should win
Renee Zellweger
Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland was just something. She became Judy. This is a no brainer.
Snubbed
Jillian Bell
I really don't understand how this film and this performance was ignored. Bell ran the gambit from a wreck, to funny, to sweet, to just plain mean in one performance.
I would replace Charlize Theron and put Jillian Bell in that spot.
BEST ACTOR
Adam Driver Marriage Story
Antonio Banderas Pain And Glory
Leonardo DeCaprio One Upon A Time In Hollywood
Jonathan Pryce The Two Popes
Joaquin Phoenix The Joker
Will Win and Should Win
Joaquin Phoenix
It is a weak year for best actor. This is a two horse race DeCaprio and Phoenix.
I give Phoenix the slight edge, just because the part was just so far out there. However, I am not sure he was acting.
Snubbed
Adam Sandler
Sandler in Uncut gems is soooo good (however I was not as big a fan of the film as others)! The desperation on his face. The behavior of his gambling addiction!! He is great here. I would replace anyone on that list not named DeCaprio and Phoenix.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Kathy Bates Richard Jewel
Laura Dern Marriage Story
Scarlett Johansson JoJo Rabbit
Florence Pugh Little Women
Margot Robbie Bombshell
Will Win And Should Win
Kathy Bates
Bates is not the front runner, but I am going with the upset here. She has a bigger part than anyone in this category. Also, she was amazing as Bobi Jewel, Richard's mom. So filled with love, then the heartache. She plays the part on so many levels.
Snubbed
Ana De Armas
As Marta Cabrera in Knives Out she is outstanding!!! She carries this film, even though everyone else had bigger names!!
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Anthony Hopkins The Two Popes
Brad Pitt Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Joe Pesci The Irishman
Al Pacino The Irishman
Tom Hanks A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood
Will Win and Should Win
Brad Pitt
I almost pick Brad Pitt out of elimination. He is well deserved. However also throw in Pesci and Pacino will knock each other out. Hopkins...NO. Hanks is the closest and the film was not that great it was just good, and his part was very small, I would say he is runner up and could pull off the upset.. So that leaves Pitt with a big role which could be lead actor to be honest.
Snubbed
Jamie Fox
Jamie Fox in Just Mercy was freaking fantastic...better than anyone else in the category. The movie is flat but he is soooo good. I would replace Hopkins with him.
BEST DIRECTOR
Quentin Tarantino Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Todd Phillips The Joker
Bong Joon-Ho Parasite
Martin Scorsese The Irishman
Sam Mendes 1917
Will Win
Bong Joon-Ho
I think it is a race between Tarantino and Joon-Ho. Joon-Ho has a lot of momentom after SAG awards. I see him edging out Tarantino.
Should Win
Sam Mendes
Mendes is so quiet. He is not out there on talk shows so he has no momentum, but I think he should win. The decision to use a Sted-cam almost all the time, having us follow the soldiers behind enemy lines. It puts us in the trenches with them. Using one steady run with no edit, is a bold decision. The film looks wonderful.
Snubbed
Taika Waititi
Greta Gerwig
My first ever double snub!!!!!!!!! Both these directors took chances!
Waititi...come on he even dressed as Hitler. A comedy about Hitler and Nazi's??!!
Gerwig..took Little Women and changed the narrative a bit and for the most part it worked!
I would replace Scorsese (bore of as film/plus an Emmy film on Netflix) and Phillips (The Joker is good but as per direction nothing special, it is all Phoenix).
BEST SONG
I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away Toy Story 4
(I'm Gonna ) Love Me Again Rocketman
I'm Standing With You Breakthrough
Into The Unknown Frozen 2
Harriet Stand Up
Will Win
(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again
To me it is a forgettable song. However Oscar voters want Elton on the stage so....
Should Win
Into The Unknown
Idena Menzel sings the crap out of this song. Unlike the Elton song it is an actual important part of the film. It is part of the story.
Snubbed
The Next Right Thing
Who would have thought Kristen Bell would have such a strong voice. There are layers in this song, where Anna is feeling loss of everything around her. Then understand she has to move on and do the next right thing. It is a great moment in the film. I would replace this with I'm Standing with You.
BEST SCORE
John Williams Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker
Thomas Newman 1917
Hildur Guonadottir Joker
Alexandre Desplat Little Women
Randy Newman A Marriage Story
Will Win and Should Win
Thomas Newman
It will be a battle between Newman and Williams. I think Newman will win because his score sets the tone throughout a movie with little dialog.
Snubbed
Alan Silvestri
Underrated. Underrated. Underrated. The score for all the Avengers films. You here that score you know the movie. I would replace him Guonadottir.
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
Rodrigo Prieto The Irishman
Lawrence Sher Joker
Jarin Blaschke The Lighthouse
Roger Deakins 1917
Robert Richardson Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Will Win and Should Win
Roger Deakins 1917
No brainer...Roger Deakins 1917. The camera is like another character in the film.
Snubbed
Yorick le Saux for Little Women
Little Women was one of the most beautiful looking films of the year. I just do not understand. The season. The light and darkness. I was beautiful. I would have replaced Prieto's The Irishman with this.
BEST COSTUME DESIGN
Mark Bridges Joker
Christopher Peterson The Irishman
Jacqueline Durran Little Women
Mayes C Rubeo Jo Jo Rabbit
Arianne Phillips Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Sandy Powell The Irishman
Will Win and Should Win
Christopher Peterson Little Women
This is a tough race between Phillips and Durran. I give the slight edge to Durran, however I would not be bothered if Phillips wins
Snubbed
Amy Roth Motherless Brooklyn
The forgotten film. Directed and starring Ed norton. The look and time and place are the film.
I would replace Bridges with Amy Roth
BEST ANIMATED FILM
Klaus
Missing Link
Toy Story 4
How To Train Your Dragon Hidden World
I Lost My Body
Will Win
KLAUS
It will win because of Netflix it has more eyes. However it is a fraud TV cartoon special.
Should Win
Missing Link
I enjoyed Missing Link more than I thought I would. I laughed often.
Snubbed
Frozen 2
I saved this category for last. This is the biggest snub. WTH!!!!! It was the most berautiful animated film of the year. The best music in an animated film this year. Plus, a story that many dont get on the first watch, but it is very meaningful, yet often funny. Replaced Dragon (are you kidding me???!!); or the fraud of a TV cartoon Klaus.
Anything else I would like to see? I want Irishman; Marriage Story; Klaus shut out because they are frauds of films for the theater. They were made for TV. Give them to the Emmys.
Well enjoy the show...If I win I will thank everyone of you!!
From the red carpet and the shadows as always thanks for your time!!
