Here Is My Worst To Best For September!!!

 10
Yes 10....
Some bad and then..some which could be in my top ten at the end of the year...
Sooooo here we go...

THE STUNT DRIVER

Directed by Michael Dose, starring Jay Baruchel as stuntman Ken Carter who wants to launch a rocket car across the St. Lawrence river into Canada. It is a true story that did not need to be told. I found Ken Carter annoying, selfish, and crazy. I did not care about him at all. So..I did not care for the movie.

SHAUN THE SHEEP : THE BEAST OF MOSSY BOTTOM

It is cute. Stop motion animation. It is silly. It is strange. At an hour and twenty minutes...it still felt long.

FORGOTTEN ISLAND

It is a sweet story about two friends who fulfill their dream of going to the mystical island of Nakali, however once there...they realize they may never be able to leave.
It is a sweet story of friendship buried in an almost strange Hangover for kids movie, where they cannot remember what they did when they arrived onto the island, so they spend the film trying to piece it together.
It has an odd almost spidey-verse look, which was kinda cool, however it really needed an editor, almost 2 hours of repetition was not good.

BY ANY MEANS

A Mafia hitman (Mark Wahlberg) and a young black FBI Agent work together to investigate the death of a civil rights leader.
Directed by Elegance Patton, it is a pretty good true story. The performances were kinda stiff by both leads...and some generic costars. The script was just...not good. The story was better than the script sadly. However it is still worth a look on streaming services...it's a big part of history.

RUNNER

A former soldier (Alan Ritchson) and his unlikely partner (Owen Wilson) are being hunted by a cartel while they try to make an important medical delivery.

Directed by Scott Waugh, an odd choice for Angel Studios. It's an okay film. I just can't believe, it is so generic, that it was brought to the big screen and did not go straight to streaming. Plus the ending kinda sucked and the last 10 minutes in the hospital was kinda silly.

THE UPRISING

Directed by Paul Greengrass. The Uprising is the true story of the Uprising that inspired the legend of Robin Hood. Andrew Garfield plays Ploughman as he becomes the leader of the rebellion against the tyranny of the young King Richard the 2nd.
Well acted by Garfield. Also there was some supporting help from Jamie Bell and an underused Thomasin McKenzie. Somehow the film becomes a little flat and somewhat forgettable. It is an interesting true story. I guess it's because Greengrass really doesn't dive much into the background or personality of the characters, so you care for the cause but you really do not know the people. Still..it is a true story and is worth a look for streaming.

PRIMETIME

Directed by Lance Oppenheim, this film follows the making of the 1986 show to catch a predator and its host Chris Hanson.
Oh Hollywood!!!!
Only Hollywood would go after a man who becomes famous for catching child predators.
The bad...
Yes the script goes after Hanson's motives. That he sleeps with women behind his wife's back (oddly the story is trying to say this is as bad as being a predator). He traps predators and is not fair because Chris is becoming famous on their backs (THEY ARE PREDATORS!!!). That Hanson was kind of an asshole. Everyone around Hanson has come out and said it's not true he would never raise a voice to anyone.
The good..
And why is it number 4 on my list this month...
Robert Pattinson as Hanson is fantastic
Merritt Wever as Andie Bender the producer of To Catch A PREDATOR. She is sooooo good, however not a real character.
Skyler Gisondo as Dan Plum, an actor who plays a child to catch the predators. He is fantastic.

So it is very much worth a look, for the performances alone,...not the story angle.

3

CHARLIE HARPER

Directed by Tom Dean and Mac Eldridge

Man...I really liked this film. It reminded me of La La Land without the music.
A couple trying to make it work while they try to reach career goals.
Harper (Emilia Jones) wants to be a Chef. Charlie (Nick Robinson) is just stuck and needs time to grow.
We flash back and forth seeing their lives. Sometimes we, the viewers can get lost where we are at in time, but stick with it. Like La La Land you may not get the end you want, but there is growth and love.
Really good performances from the leads help push the film forward.
If you don't mind a "Talky Film" see this!!

THE WEIGHT

Directed by Padraic McKinley. The Weight is the story of Samuel Murphy (Ethan Hawke) who is trying to save his daughter, he is hired by a man (Russell Crowe) to help smuggle a fortune in gold across hundreds of miles of wilderness.
This is an old fashion film where in the past you would see Redford and Newman star in. The Weight is full of action and excitement. Why it did not get more pushed by the studio is beyond me, because it is very good.
Also a really fantastic performance from Julia Jones as Anna.
Why not number 1? The ending. We see what happens to the main character, but we do not get closure with the other characters. I mean we spent a lot of time with them also! What becomes of them???!!
Still..a really good old fashion type of movie.

HEART OF THE BEAST

Directed by David Ayer. the film follows James Belmont (Pitt) and his dog Odin as they trek through the wilderness after their plane crash.
Look at this....back to back number one films with dogs!!
This film is sooooo good. It is a tear jerker. It involves PTSD in a former soldier and also his dog who was also a soldier.
That is all I will say. This film is slowly growing, and getting more eyes in theaters as it should. It is pretty much a love story between man and dog.
Oh yes...Brad Pitt is very good in this role. See it!

Well, there is September. We come to October..which will have Digger which I already saw. Sense And Sensibility which I saw at a screening weeks back and that comes out on the 16th,
Well anyway, as always thanks for your time, from the shadows!!
