Yes...it is time...2 weeks until Oscar night!!!
Out of 75 films I have watched in 2024...this is the list of the worst!!
Starting at number 5 which may be a surprise:
THE LAST SHOWGIRL
Hollywood sheep love a comeback story!
Directed by Gia Coppola
Written by Kate Gersten
The film follows Shelly (Pam Anderson), who is a Showgirl for an establishment that is past its prime, and sadly so is Shelly as a dancer. We come to find out, as a single mother, Shelly lost contact with her now adult daughter, due to her work schedule. So now Shelly must plan her new life with hope to establish a relationship with her daughter.
Poorly edited; and the screenplay is often laughable. We get many scenes of Shelly looking at the sky thinking, which I think was supposed to be a deep moment, however I just laughed as the look into the sky lasted way too long. Shelly's friend, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, at one point in the middle of a casino floor starts to do some strange dance which I think represents freedom. I just wanted to scream stop, and where is security???!! This movie is done on the cheap, very low budget, which is obvious but still, write an interesting story!!!
Positives:
Jodie played by Kiernan Shipka, is wonderful with a more interesting storyline that went nowhere. Dave Bautista as Eddie gives one of his best performances.
So...there is that...
Number 5 worst film of the year..THE LAST SHOWGIRL...just boring.

BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE
I go from low budget to big budget...see the amount of money spent means nothing if you cant get a good script, and this script is a mess. Waaaay too many storylines, which many were never resolved. Then they throw in pieces of nostalgia just to keep you watching.
It looked like Winona Ryder; Michael Keaton; and Catherine O'Hara mailed this one in. While Jenna Ortega as Astrid works her ass off to try to push the film through, and she often looks lost.
Well enough said. It is very forgettable.
Number 4 worst film BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE

MOANA 2
I went in with high hopes. I was fully aware that it was supposed to be a TV series but was pulled back and thrown on the big screen. I was thinking, well maybe it was previewing too really good screenings, so they decided to bring it to the big screen. I thought wrong. It was just Disney needing a film for the Christmas season. This is just a failure in every way, and it had three directors and three writers!!!
The story was a mess with no real bad guy/girl.
The music was dreadful.
This film was close to embarrassing, it almost felt like a rushed unfinished product. In my screening, children were talking and running around, the film was so boring to them.
Ugh Disney!
My number 3 worst film of the year MOANA 2
2
LOST ON A MOUNTAIN IN MAINE
The trailer for this film looked so exciting! A true story! A 12 year old lost in the mountains of Maine!!!
Sadly, nothing happened. Donn, the young boy, walked, found water, was hungry. Nothing else happened. No danger in the mountains. Nothing. not even a good story to tell. While search and rescue scratched their heads. That's it. It took three writers. I have not much to say, the trailer looked exciting and ...then this happened.
My number 2 worst film LOST ON A MOUNTAIN IN MAINE
Okay we come to my number 1 worst film of the year....taking the crown from last years winner Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom
Number 1 Worst Film Of 2024
BABES
Directed by Pamela Adlon
Screenplay by Llana Glazer and Josh Rabinowitz
The film follows two friends Eden played by Llana Glazer, and Dawn played by Michelle Buteau, as they struggle through life's challenges.
I cannot believe this got the okay to be released in theaters. It is supposed to be a comedy. I did not laugh once. In fact many scenes that were supposed to be funny including a reaaaallly unfunny pregnancy water breaking scene was nothing but cringe. Often I was looking away, wanting to leave, but I stuck it out, stupid me.
It was just awful. No one...not one character was likable. It was awful.
Easily my worst film of 2024.
BABES
Now we come to what you really want to see.
My top ten films of the year.
My Shadow awardss
My Oscar predictions
It is all coming.
My hint...my top ten....may disappoint everyone...making you think...WHAT?
From the shadows as always thanks for your time.
